IMO, no, it isn't the same, despite the Barron's article. Real estate is IMO about location, location, location....and if you are buying in the right area, long term it should be a good investment.

I'm sure that there are some areas of the country where making an investment in real estate would not be a good idea based on the local economy....but again that is part of the process, of buying in the right area.
