I don't know how useful videophones will be (i suspect that it would be a nice gimmick feature to have, but not anything to break the bank for). The killer app for wireless data in my mind is streaming audio, which doesn't seem to get much attention from the 3G visionaries. Can some of the technically inclined members of this thread comment on the feasibility of streaming audio using wireless CDMA? Let's say one would need a continuous 128 kps connection for CD quality MP3... My gut feeling is that this would not be playing to the strength of packet data, which, by its nature, does not lend itself to a continuous connection with sustained speeds.

But imagine the possibilities of internet radio using wireless... listen to any radio station in the world anywhere you are! People like me are why wireless companies will never sell unlimited data plans <g>. They coulnd't possibly have the capacity to allow many of us to stream data continuously all day every day.
