Yes I think gold has been used as a source of low (1%) money by a lot of institutions including the IMF, FRE, the government etc etc. A credit crunch will put gold a lot higher, I dont know if its tomorrow, next week or next year but its coming.

I first bought gold at $260/oz and took delivery. That's when I found out the bank that sold it to me didnt really own it, they had to go to Goldman Sachs to get it. Silver is the same deal. A lot of stuff sold short/borrowed, many billions worth.
