Buy a Honda hybrid and make a difference. Honda leads, Detroit follows. Usually the way it is. And hey, don't they build them in the US now?

Big discounts now on gas guzzlers I noticed. They're trying to get rid of them. Meanwhile they lobby with the GOP to defeat the Kerry fuel efficiency bill. Just cost us more oil than ANWAR could ever produce. The price we pay for voting for pro-oil candidates. Don't do it anymore. Once the GOP is free of the oil lobby they will be healthier and more honest party. Just ask Jeffords and McCain.

I test drove the three cars I mentioned.

The Acura is smooth, and refined for a sports coupe. Also I suspect it will hold its resale value better then the others. Unfortunately it is the least powerful of the cars. 200 HP is ok, but you need to rev the engine a bit to get power. Atleast the excellent 6 speed manual makes it easier to keep the engine at the desired RPM level. Also the car is the lightest of the three. For 2003 a type R (the one I tested was type S) with 220 HP is supposed to come out. If it was here now and didn't cost a lot more I might buy it.

I was allowed to borrow a Mustang GT overnight. I put 80 miles on it. I feel just a little guilty about that, the car had 6 miles when I borrowed it. I did put $7 of gas in it at least. Its not as brutish as I expected. Very good low end torque and 260 max HP. I would like to have independent rear suspension but its only available on the Cobra. Apparently there is no 2002 Mustang Cobra, and the 2003 one when it comes out will have a supercharged engine (nothing wrong with that) and cost over $35k (too pricey for me). For 2004 there should be an all new Mustang on a modified T-Bird chassis. This should have independent rear suspension and in general be more modern, but I'm not sure I want to wait that long.

The Subaru Impreza WRX, was even quicker then the Mustang. Like the Acura it doesn't have a lot of low end torque but the turbo helps the midrange as well as the top end, so it is more powerful and lower revs then the Acura. It 4 wheel drive. Its a bit quirky, and I only had a very short test drive (the dealer didn't want to give me one) but it seems like a fun car. I was thinking about getting a sun roof and the Subaru doesn't offer one. Max HP is 227.

If I was looking for a sedan I would have given tested a Nissan Altima. Its got a 240 HP 6 cyl.

Later this year the Nissan 350ZX and the Mazda RX-8 might be contenders if I haven't bought a car by then. Also The Acura RSX Type R, and the Subaru Impreza WRX Sti (with something like 280 HP) might be out.

My current car is a 1995 Ford Contour with a 170 HP 6.
