re: EDGE will happen

==========

An amusing article.

"History has shown that technology takes a long time to roll out. O2 announced GPRS in the summer of 2000 and started trials in November 2000."

After an extended and protracted development period, 3GSM vendors can't resolve issues with GPRS, which Rockman - amusingly, at this stage - calls a simple upgrade. (Capacity... capacity?)

3GPP members can't resolve issues with the Release 99 Standard. Vendors take the political document to the field - realize it doesn't work - and return with proposed corrections. Again and again.

However, Rockman believes that these same players will bring EDGEfantasies to life in a timely fashion, even though it's reportedly a magnitude greater in complexity than GPRS.

Simple minds...
