ted, re: port invaders. typically, legitimate apps are logged by ZA and it tracks updates w/no problems. if it doesn't recognize an installation, it asks, then, if ok, it'll continue. i'm sure you've seen this whenever you've upgraded a browser, for instance. that's why i always build a broadband system disk w/firewall first so it can track the app installs.

i haven't backtracked a port prober yet. frankly, they make me too nervous. i've known some of the types that work that world and they're just too freakin' smart for me to fool around with. (ng)

i enable the alert popup occasionally just to check the activity. actually going out there i equate to swimming w/sharks: the transition from observer to lunch can be way to quick for these old bones. (.5g)

i copied this from my ZA log...
"The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (HTTP) from 196.29.128.130 (TCP Port 34163) [TCP Flags: S].
Time: 4/24/02 12:24:50 PM"

...plugged in the http/ip address and hit go. it connected to a site but didn't bring up a page, then, i got this...

"The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (FTP) from 61.39.137.209 (TCP Port 2815) [TCP Flags: S].
Time: 4/24/02 12:50:26 PM"

ZA's best guestimate was that it was a netscan probe looking for webservers w/weak port80 protection. if successful it would probably download something very contagious from that FTP site.

teenage bit wizards. lol.
