I think it was Compaq with Cyrix MediaGX that first "broke" the $1000 barrier among the major OEMs. Smaller vendors did it before. Celeron came more than a year after MediaGX.

What a fib.

Did Sanders say that AMD was responsible for the sub 1000 PC? How quickly we forget. Cyrix with the Media Gx processor was responsible for the sub 1000 computer.
