But it appears that the Palestinian national movement's real goal is the destruction of Israel and the creation of a Palestinian state in its place, not the limited goal mentioned in this article. This is what Arafat has proffered in Arabic. As one Palestinian I saw interviewed in the French newspaper Le Figaro observed related to the disastrous policy that has played out « Does Arafat really believe that not a single Israeli understands Arabic ? Arafat thinks it doesn't matter since the Arab world understands Arabic and applauds his policy, while the rest of "world opinion" either doesn't understand Arabic or has agreed to ignore anything said in Arabic.
