Hi stockman_scott; OT, my favorite cartoon is this one, which correctly expresses the futility and madness of the situation:

The Seattle Post-"intellgence cartoon would have been great except that it missed one small aspect. Arafat's hand should show that he's got his fingers crossed.

I guess, maybe that is the principal arguement for many of here. Cobalt, JohnM, and Stockman seem to think that negotiations are important, or perhaps a forced solution would work. I say what is needed are two people wanting peace. That is the precondition that is required. We don't have it. We cannot have that precondition in an environment where one side refuses to give up their hate for the other side, and who finds itself further inflamed in that hate because the entire Arab world has a vested interest in that hate continuing.

I sure hope Debka is right. Move Arafat from the West Bank to Gaza, allow Egypt to increase it's influence on Gaza, marginalizing Arafat there, while Jordan takes a much more active role in the situation in the West Bank. This would give everyone cover to find a solution in much more rapid a timeframe.
