The EQUITY sure can. Take a look at the balance sheets. Bondholders will own most of these companies.

When people say "the stock can't go to zero, can it" what they're really asking is "the company can't go out of business, can it". I will go out on a limb here and say that AT&T will in fact NOT go out of business. However, I would not be shocked if the equity in AT&T got zeroed out.

So yes, all the telecom STOCKS can go to zero, even though many (if not most) of the BUSINESSES will still be around.
