They won imho.

In a big way. Jenin will live in history as another in a long string of defeats for the radical Islamists and their supporters.

I am now reluctanctly convinced that stringing a few more victories like this one is, unfortunately, the only means of deterring future attacks. Take away the prospect of a victory and peace, for a while, anyway, will follow.

It's a damn shame, too, but I can't explain it otherwise. The data is simply overwhelming.

I read one report, that I cannot find at the moment that indicated several things:

Many Israeli solgier groups tried to make the situation better for the Palestinians, handing out candy, compensating Palestinians whose houses they took over for a few days, cleaned up after themselves. It is ashame that if those kinds of things occurred, and I hope they did, that they did not receive wider coverage. It clearly is part of the story, just as much a part of the story as some of the extreme exagerations that the British Press, and some leftists liked to throw around as fact during the first few days of Jenin.

The same article talked about 1 case of an Israeli solgier who was being charged with looting, and that forteen other instances were being investigated. That is the kind of professionalism I would expect from any army, and if true, I am glad that the Israeli army cares enough to enforce rules meant to protect innocent civilians.
