Cellegy Withdraws Pain Drug Application

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Reuters) - Cellegy Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NasdaqNM:CLGY - news) on Friday said it has withdrawn the New Drug Application for its Cellegesic pain ointment.

The company said it made the decision after a recent meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, "during which it became clear that the agency would require additional information in order to grant marketing clearance" in the United States."

The drug's nitroglycerin ointment is intended for the treatment of pain associated with chronic anal fissures.

Cellegy said it remains confident in the drug and said it plans to meet again soon with the agency to discuss the type of additional information needed.
