So, as a result, both HP and Compaq will be out of the desktop market sooner than expected. Now is the time to start examining Who Will Fill The Vacuum. This should stop the earnings erosion at Dell for a little while, but the time is ripe for one or more companies to make an assault on the desktop market. Maybe this is AMD's big opportunity, because AMD's chips, especially the Hammers, are a good differentiator from Dell.

Why do you think the ligition will force HP and CPQ out of the desktop market?
