Andreas, Re: "So far nothing really has been confirmed. Quite a disappointment IMO."

On the bright side, a demonstration of a 2-way system indicates to me that Opteron is "alive" and doing quite well (at this stage in development). Talk is cheap, and AMD has made a lot of BS in the past, so I have been skeptical on the whole issue until now. Actions speak louder than words, so as long as AMD continues to show good progress, I may have to take a second look at them as an investment.

I wasn't disappointed at all. A possible launch in the first half of 2003...a full year from now, assuming no slips. A possible commitment from MS that they'll work on a version of Windows for the Opticon. Ho-hum, as MS also was working on versions of NT for DEC Alpha, for example. The high tech industry is littered with the corpses of a million dead Jihad warriors.

Meanwhile, where does AMD get the profits until Octoroon is shipping in volume? Looks like it's going to be a mighty lean 12-18 months ahead.

Was Dirk Meyer even at the CC? If not, why was this changed? (no audio here either) /Petz
