The desktop roadmap is XP second edition (I don't know the target date), followed by Longhorn, which just slipped to 2004. I'm not sure I particularly like the outlook on that one. Check the reply to Nathan Brookwood's question:Q - Nathan Brookwood, Insight64 Congratulations fellas… [thanks… thank you, Nathan] My question involves Microsoft licensing and packaging of its various Windows offerings and in particular they have XP Professional and XP home. Given that you're going to be introducing the desktop version of Hammer first, I'm sorry, Opteron first, do you anticipate that Microsoft will have a Home version that supports x86-64? A: Hi Nathan, this is Ian Ellot [sp?]. First of all, I wanted to clarify that the first product we will be announcing will be the 8th generation AMD Athlon which will be coming out in Q4 of this year, and then second followed on in the first half of '03 by the AMD Opteron, which is targeted at servers and workstations. The specific products that we will be announcing and that we're working with, with Microsoft, we're not specifically outlining those today. However, the current plans and discussions do not do a specific product targeted specifically at our processor solution, but to include our, the instruction set required to work with our processors, in a standard OS release from Microsoft to be announced later in the future. Q: So, fundamentally, you're saying that it's unclear yet how it's going to end up being packaged by Microsoft. A: Yes, the specifics of that we're not making an announcement on that today.
