Korea's LG Telecom's Posts US$394.8 MLN in First Quarter Sales sg.news.yahoo.com SEOUL, April 25 Asia Pulse - LG Telecom said Thursday that its first-quarter sales reached 516.1 billion won (US$394.8 million), with a net profit of 42.8 billion won. Sales are up 13 per cent from a year earlier, and the net profit soared 20.4 per cent. Ordinary profit rose 18.5 per cent to 60.9 billion won, but operating profit fell 17.5 per cent to 79.8 billion won. LG Telecom attributed the good performance to the steady rise in mobile phone service subscribers and phone usage, as well as brisk data services. Sales in data and other related services rose 5.2 per cent from a year earlier to 14.8 per cent. LG attributed the drop in operating profit to a rise in marketing cost resulting from heated competition, and a rise in depreciation cost. The total number of subscribers rose 2 per cent from the end of last year to 4,355,000.
