Fred,
I wrote runes separately and did not put him on ignore. I am disturbed by his oversights but he claims that he plays the role of devils advocate in these debates and so in this case he has a goal to get us to review our decisions. If he had two arabs instead of two jews in this debate, he may be making our points to them I do this all the time in my real life so i apologize for my emotionalism.
As far as Jerome goes, he is always trying to get me going. I will not fall for it this time. He is our age and i think he has some issues from his past that have led to a bias against jews as a religion/ethnic group. Israel he clearly dislikes and Palestine is his national liberation of the movement. Curious. mike

Fred,
Another point to contend with in the middle east.
They respect force yes. They are also " horse traders" and that goes for the arabs and the jews.
I read the NY Times article as almost a plea to us, to at least appear to be fair to the arab street. I wrote to runes privately that maybe its time for the US to get sharon to compromise on the tactical ramalla and bethlem church issues. Let the palestinians carry out the sentence in ramalla and certainly an evacuation stratey for the terrorists in the church in bethlehem.
If we can demand that and get it and then call an international conference to discuss the saudi plan what we mey end up with is camp david type border adjustments and full relations. Perhaps a nato force on the border as part of a cooling off period. Then we will see if arab states and plo will be serious. I would sweeten the pot with a massive rebuilding of the Pal infrastructure and some specific economic help to israel to whether the terror recession they are now in. Saudis must kick in big bucks too for the pals as must the europeans. Its a dream i know and if the arabs ultimatlely back down from this agreement the war next time will make this police action look like a picnic. mike
