Nor are you unique among non-Catholics in writing off the Church. Half a millennium ago the Church sold indulgences to illiterate members of the peerage who wanted to knock off a brother who might inherit the title. That helped lead to the Protestant Reformation-which in turn lead to the enlightenment-and the world we have today. Similar Church-related scandals are quite numerous.

The Church at that time was sanctioning murder. Today they have been lead by the general cultural decline of the West to allow gays into the priesthood. The result is what you see.

Whether you want to write off the Church and its beliefs over the latest lost direction is up to you. But, while I expect a general pre-Vatican I renaissance in the Catholic Church resulting from this, which may lead to a general and much-needed moral renaissance in the US and Europe, I don't expect to see the Church destroyed by the lack of either your confidence or that of Bill O'Rielly...
