HP Trial Ends, Judge Promises Quick Decision

WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) - The trial of the lawsuit that seeks to block Hewlett-Packard Co.'s (NYSE:HWP - news) $18-billion plan to buy Compaq Computer Corp. closed on Thursday, with promises from the judge to issue a decision very quickly.

The three-day proceedings addressed two issues -- whether HP had misled investors about the financial benefits of the merger, and whether it had coerced Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) into backing the deal.

Delaware Chancery Court Judge William Chandler asked the attorneys for Hewlett Packard and HP dissident shareholder Walter Hewlett, who brought the action against HP, to file post-trial briefs in lieu of closing arguments.

``I know you want a decision quickly and you will get one very quickly,'' he said. The briefs are due by midnight Friday.
