You're fighting the obvious logic. Getting off oil by 50% in ten years should be a bi-partisan issue. The reason it's partisan now and so political is because Bush-Cheney are oil CEO's masquerading as democractic leaders. They owe the Enron gang everything. They are part of that gang. They have hijacked with GOP with their "old energy only" agenda and they can't seem to even consider the possibility that conservation, efficiency and new fuels are the answer.

Won't happen overnight but it needs to start happening now. Look at this Saudi prince talking tough to Bush today. And what's he supposed to say? Bush is in a tight spot because his #1 agenda is increased reliance on oil. So in effect he puts maximum power into the Saudis hands and minimizes our national security. Want to scare the Saudis? Show them we mean business about eventually not buying their oil at all. And the Japanese can join us. ye sit will take a big boost in hydroogen and other technology spending but so what? We got to the moon didn't we? So why look backward now?
