I believe in diplomatic methods so long as there is a reasonable shot at them working and so long as you're are negotiating with someone in good faith. But you can't negotiate with Arafat, and I don't accept the Bush administration's position that you can. I support Bush in this matter only because his leadership in other areas has been so strong; it is reasonable to assume that he has knowledge or a game plan that will take us to the best possible result.

When good faith negotiations have broken down, there is no alternative to kicking the sh*t out of the other side. True leaders know this; look at Reagan's handling of the PATCO strike. It'll be a long time before they pull that crap again.
