You mean the silicon wafer - by which I guess you mean that Madison performance will be zero?<<<<<<<< I didn't say that Madison's performance would be zero; you did. I disagree. Will the performance of Madison be enough to beat Power four, Nah. Quit harping about a 500 million transistor chip being able to beat Hammer. Madison's real competition is Sun and Ibm offerings; Zeon is Hammers. Besides I was answering Elmers questions. <<<<<<<<<<<< Because they haven't started shipping McKinley yet in production volumes. Why show the successor to what you haven't released yet? Considering that McKinley will blow away Hammer, you don't even want to know about Madison.<<<<<< You show the successor to McKinley because the buyers of McKinley need to know that Intel can make their investment in a new architecture pay off. Without the promise of a chip that will challenge Power four, why would anyone pay that much for Mckinley? As for McKinley blowing away Hammer, I will believe it when I see it. This is a big integer, memory, and I/O heavy test, and Itanium may just blow away the competition.< Alpha also blew away the competition, how is it doing. DEC was a big company when Alpha was introduced. Granted, Intel has other options, and other sources, but Intel's size doesn't guarantee success. Not only will Itanium have to blow away the competition, but it will also have to show, making the changeover to IA-64 will pay off. The reports we are seeing lately, about how difficut it is to write for IA-64 don't sound good. <<<<<<<<First year sales mean nothing. It's all about what happens from now on. And from the looks of things, it's no wonder that Compaq dumped Alpha in favor of Itanium.<<<<< That is a good one. Compaq dumping Alpha in favor of Itanium is suppose to show me what? How good Compaq is at picking winners? There is a reason why Carly can't seem to persuade investors to favor the deal. You are looking at it.
