Without the promise of a chip that will challenge Power four, why would anyone pay that much for Mckinley? As for McKinley blowing away Hammer, I will believe it when I see it. This is a big integer, memory, and I/O heavy test, and Itanium may just blow away the competition.< Alpha also blew away the competition, how is it doing. DEC was a big company when Alpha was introduced. Granted, Intel has other options, and other sources, but Intel's size doesn't guarantee success. Not only will Itanium have to blow away the competition, but it will also have to show, making the changeover to IA-64 will pay off. The reports we are seeing lately, about how difficut it is to write for IA-64 don't sound good. <<<<<<<<First year sales mean nothing. It's all about what happens from now on.
