Do you really think AMD IPOed as a $4 billion company in 1973? The real IPO share price was about $0.45 (split-adjusted). Here's a full historic chart:

And this chart shows that AMD was quite successful in the first ten years after the IPO:

Of course that doesn't change the fact that AMD's stock has going nowhere for nearly 20 years. But if you don't go long but trade the stock like most here do (including me), that's sometimes even an advantage.
