Do a search for "creating hydrogen fuel" and you will get many websites with news of the latest developments all over the world. The US is in danger of lagging behind with its Big Oil CEO's in the White House. I'm sure we can figure out ways to make the entire energy network absolutely clean and renewable. So what if it takes ten years? It's worth it. But needs massive support now. Why give Bush his 33 billion for Big Energy (all the polluters) when we can use it to create a whole new clean energy system? Your cynical dismissal of the idea shows our nation's real problem. Many people believe we can't change, shouldn't change and that the stayus qupo is the only weay to go. Well look where that has led us in the Middle East, Enron-style energy gougings/phony crises and with global pollution. Nope, there's a much better way. Big Energy is the single most dangerous special interest in our country now because they really don't give a damn about our futures, only their present profits. And they all but own our President and his men.

Hi FaultLine; Re: "New Japanese technology allows for the creation of hydrogen using helium gas.

This is fission and a no-so-common gas to boot. The whole planet is covered with hydrogen in one form or another. Bunk, I don't believe it. Reference(s) please.
"

Maybe it's not bunk, but is just standard refrigeration technology. Helium can be used in the manufacture of liquid hydrogen:

STUDY OF LARGE HYDROGEN LIQUEFACTION PROCESS
(2)HELIUM BRAYTON CYCLE
This cycle is adopted for relatively small hydrogen liquefaction plants. A typical flow of this process is shown in Fig.3. Helium gas is used in the recycling line. The pressure conditions of feed gas and the installation of the super critical turbine and O-P conversion of the feed hydrogen are almost the same as Hydrogen Claude Cycle.

I think AS is maybe referring to Hydrogen fusion into Helium. Cold fusion is still a favorite subject in science circles...

Of course, much to the dismay of many.....pollution is also at the top of the list as well
