From Briefing.com: MSCC Microsemi downgraded by Bear Stearns; notes liquidity concerns (15.40) Bear Stearns downgrades to ATTRACTIVE from Buy; says liquidity is a legitimate concern as cash position fell to $15.8 mln; says company expects $8 mln in cash from sale of Watertown facility but has $5.2 mln in long-term debt and $10 mln in short-term debt, which is due in August and can be paid in cash or stock.

8:40AM : The futures are pointing to a moderately higher open on generally positive earning announcements....GDP was just released. It rose 5.8% in Q1 vs the 5.0% consensus, and final sales rose 2.6% vs expectations of about 2% growth. The PCE price index was up a very friendly 0.6%. Though the 5.8% headline number greatly overstates the strength of underlying growth, the 2.6% final sales increase is still encouraging and the mix of stronger growth and very low inflation is positive for the market....

7:35AM Microchip upgraded by Merrill Lynch (MCHP) 43.95: Merrill Lynch upgrades to near-term STRONG BUY from Buy with a $55 price target; cites valuation, market share gains, and high margins.

7:32AM Cabot Micro upgraded by UBS (CCMP) 47.25: UBS Warburg upgrades to STRONG BUY from Buy while cutting target to $70 from $85; cites compelling valuation following yesterday's sell-off on weaker than expected earnings; believes Q1 was the bottom and April is showing an uptick, sees leverage at CCMP as tremendous once a recovery begins.

7:25AM Veeco Instruments beats by six cents (VECO) 31.94: Reports Q1 (Mar) net of breakeven, $0.06 better than the Multex consensus of ($0.06); revenues fell 36.1% year/year to $80.1 mln vs the $72.4 mln consensus. Guides Q2 to breakeven EPS and revenues of $75-80 mln, in line with consensus estimates of breakeven and $76.6 mln.
