OT aol/time warner
interesting

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- AOL Time Warner executives are considering selling a minority stake in Time Warner Cable through a public stock offering that would create a company with a market capitalization of $45 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said that the move would help resolve AOL Time Warner's (AOL: news, chart, profile) long-simmering dispute with AT&T (T: news, chart, profile) over their cable and content partnership known as Time Warner Entertainment.

A public offering of the cable business could provide a way for AOL to compensate AT&T without money coming out of AOL's coffers and also give AOL a stock to pursue cable acquisitions at a time when the industry is consolidating, the report said.

The unidentified sources said that the IPO idea is far from imminent or definite and is just one of several restructuring options that AOL is considering in light of its post-merger problems.
