Yes, by statute they have to pay you the retail rate I believe. I've got a small system, tho', and will use it all, and then some, at least for now.

I recently read about a fellow in Silicon Valley who put up a massive solar/wind system and is making an income... he's had a fight with PG&E to get them to accept it, but won.

You can but you have to disconnect in case of a power outage. The guys fixing the lines don't like power being back fed into the system.
