tax credits will help if the vehicle is large enough for the public to accept...
I still remember all the gas lines during allocation ... There was a rush to buy smaller cars when the public needed to replace their car but that fell off quickly as gasoline supplies return to normal. Now we have the gas family trucks on the road. ha

Back in the early 80's I think VW came out with golf .. and it was a 40/50 per gallon car. One guy I knew loved it but never did see another one in the parking lot.

Tar sands still present major problems again do to the cost to extract oil from the sands... It still takes more energy to get the oil out with todays prices. Hopefully we can find a better way to extract the oil since we have unbelieveable supply.

Maybe with tax credits and a great marketing campaign the public will buy smaller cars once again.
