I've declined to salve your discomfort, JC. That's all.

I only have a few minutes this morning JC. Good question. I think you might be missing the overall context of both the site and the existence of homophobia. As to a single criterion such as you have mentioned..it would depend on why you opposed equality for gays.

It is hard to understand how a desire to discriminate against homosexuals could be restricted to a single legal issue; and it is equally difficult to rationalize what could motivate any type of repugnance toward a distinct group of people, if it were not based on hatred, or fear, or both.

I would say that if you do not hate, fear, or discriminate against homosexuals as to their entitlement to the same rights and privileges as enjoyed by all human beings..then it could be fairly said you are not a homophobe. Hating individual homosexuals for something illegal or inhuman which they may have done is not homophobic. Hating individual people from any group for just reason is not prejudicial. However, if you hate (say) all heteros because one of them threw a bomb--then you have an emotional and a character problem.
