Ira Good points. I was sticking to the Federal budget, not the "total costs" of the terrorist acts.

Good points. Not to mention the opportunities lost due to the major cutbacks in leisure travel by American citizens. Shoot they are warning Americans traveling all over the world to watch out for those few million freaks in the Middle East whose idea of a good time is terrorizing innocent civilians. So I'm sure the travel and leisure industries alone are suffering to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. What's ironic is that some of that tourist money goes to the Middle East. So their economies must be REALLY hurting relative to ours. If the US stopped buying oil from the Middle East and stopped touring over there, the Middle East's economy would collapse. I think we should boycott those bstrds, develop alternative fuels, such as fuel cells and electric cars, and watch them sink. Two choices for Middle Easterners: join the modern world and enjoy all the prosperity and freedom we enjoy or persist in their medieval dark ages thinking and terrorist ways and live in poverty and despair the rest of their lives. It seems like a simple choice, but they have a tough time making it, in part because they are convinced that the US wants to conquer and subjugate the Middle East. What a joke! It reminds me of the Communist indoctrinations and how they used to tell everyone in Russia how evil we were over here and how imperialistic. What delusion! And the sad thing about these lies is that it only hurts them. We're still doing fine over here, but they believe the lies about us and suffer as a result. It really is a sad situation.
