More downside in the cards: technical analyst By Julie Rannazzisi
John Roque, senior vice president at Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder, believes that any potential "bounce-back" rallies in the Dow and Nasdaq won't last for long: he sees downside potential to 9,500 on the Dow and to 1,600 on the Nasdaq. He remains bearish on big-cap technology as internal data continues to reveal that "rallies are not as soothing as declines are debilitating." Additionally, Roque feels that investors remain complacent on tech -- a bearish indicator from a contrarian standpoint. The general feeling that "it can't get much worse from here" indicates that investors are not too concerned, he said. Roque is also concerned about the dollar's weakness and feels that it will be important to watch the currency's performance going forward."We need to pay attention to the dollar [and its effect] on confidence," he maintained.
