the widespread critism you mention does not exist where it counts, in ISRAEL.

as for the factors, only defense costs and some infrastructure costs are valid. all other factors including loss of tourism is not because of the 'occupation' but because of the terrorism. Stockman and Ha'aretz may blame Sharon, but I blame Arafat. I think now, if the incursion has reduced terror, and if a fence is built up (which will cause a budget problem) you will see a big pickup in tourism.

But, Israel's economy is actually fairly concentrated in 'high technology' They are suffering like any NASDAQ investor here at SI. A pick up in the QQQ's would be the best thing for the Israeli economy.
