just wanted to clarify that my main PM selling was in my hedgers & ones that retraced to pre-manipulation values. I did the contrarian's contrarian play and bought ASL & CBJ when everyone hated the hedgers (ABX never got cheap enough for me but I unfortunately inherited them via HM & have since punted). Didn't want to flirt with losing 3 & 4 baggers there. The hedgers really imploded in the '99 POG move & regardless of whether they have their hedge books under control, I think the "perception" will be to trash them first, ask questions later. To me the Street likes to run everything as business as usual, 100mph - until it ALL hits the brick wall. They've worked hard on the perception that won't happen, so I think it will.

I'd love a return to a gold standard, and would vote for it (LOL, like we get to vote on anything that matters!). I do have to think that if the US Clownbuck is to remain the world's reserve currency, about the only thing that can save its collapse is to return to a constitutionally required PM backing. Now that would squeeze some $ shorts!
