"All-powerful central government" is a phrase I often use to alarm those who get too cozy with our current regime. Or the previous one, for that matter. By that I mean an encroaching self-directed organization that was warned about by the Founders, which tends, as any overlarge bureaucracy, to extend itself into every corner of life, eventually into either full-fledged socialism, or fascism. Components are the military-industrial complex warned about by Eisenhower, particularly the intel agencies that operate in secret. Ostensibly, at the behest of the Executive Branch, but without accountability, so are oriented like any bureaucracy to self-aggrandizement and control, not the safety of the American people. Other components are excessive politically-motivated transfer payments that buy off voter segments, such as the poor, immigrants, and bribery segments such as wealthy donors domestic and foreign, that supply cash to politicians and Beltway Bandits. Q:Who should run the government? A:Duly elected leaders who are not discovered to be beholden to foreign interests or industrial cartels, such as defense and oil. After being elected, anyone not recognizing that they are public servants, rather than the people serving them, should be thrown out immediately. Anyone with even the appearance of war profiteering, if they don't disclose and eliminate that conflict, likewise should be investigated and if guilty, jailed. Q:How should it be run? A:With full disclosure and transparency on every dollar and every program, with the exception only of bona-fide military secrets, and those only temporarily. All such information is already in electronic form and only requires permissions, not expenditures, to release. 99% of so-called "National Security" secrets turn out to be bogus, once released. A:Dismantle the Spook leadership, fire and jail those guilty of crimes, and reconstitute a trustworthy, competent, non-criminal intel leadership. Expose and in future avoid all tampering by government agencies with the news media. Make it a criminal offense for govenment money to secretly influence public news sources and reports. Q:Who would be your leader? A:Hopefully those chosen from the millions of capable people who view public service as a duty, not a way to gain foreign oil contracts. For example. A:Are you asking for specific people? I don't know. That's a tough one. Anyone is, imo, better than the current crop. Any honest, capable individual such as McCain would serve. The key is open government, full accountability, lack of media tampering, and the rest will straighten itself out. IMO !
