Last year I made a horrific error in my taxes. Because of unusual circumstances I owed the IRS an additional 8k. I took the money out of a Roth IRA which is of course pre-taxed fully expecting to pay the 10% penalty. To my horror I later discovered that I would not only have to pay the penalty, but would have to pay the income tax on the 8k again. About the same time I discovered this someone else I know got back every penny of over 5k that they had paid in. The idea was more than a little frustrating. * * *
