Heard a report on the news that average tax refunds are higher this year, at about $1,900, I believe. The reporter said this may help consumer confidence/spending as the refunds are received. I sure hope so.

That would be nice as I'd like to see customer spending go up in terms of generally improving corporate profitability. Increased consumer spending, however, in of itself is not going to pull the tech industry out of its doldrums, and it certainly won't pull the communications industry out of its doldrums. Corporate spending on IT infrastructure is the only thing that is going to turn around the IT and/or communications spending. Increased consumer spending is the required first step, but it's not the only step...

Just says that people made less and the government will get less. Another indication that the government will receive a short fall this year.
The government comes up with some funky number that the US economy is growing at 5.8%...but the markets are heading for September lows and the gold stock index is about the only thing going up. Ever wonder what's wrong with this picture?
