Yes, the body was a standard Golf.

In Germany most stations offer Diesel. And there are many Diesel car models. Very popular are "TDI" (turbo Diesel injection) versions, especially by Audi or BMW. They accelerate as fast as normal gas cars, have top speeds of 130 mph and more and can run extremely efficiently, an Audi A4 with 40-50 mpg, for instance.

I rarely see natural gas at stations, however. It is also rare to meet a rape oil engine. But you have found one if the car in front of you on the highway smells like French fries...
