Peter,

NVDA buying AMD oh ...
my other hobby is 'fooling' around with the computer ie studying whats inside the computer box and what makes it run and what makes it run the best and what will make it run the best in the future ...

I like AMD a lot compared to INTC. I think intel has been running on their good name for too long. AMD;even though their market share isnt as strong as intel's; I think AMD has a better product and their future plans are looking quite promising. Back when Cyrix was trying to be a player; somehow I never got hooked with them. Their floating point sucked and they tried to downplay it. Basically saying intel's floating point was a money hog and wasnt really necessary with major apps etc ... guess the ploy didnt work. Even thou the competition helped I didnt like their chip overall.

The last and most recent graphics card I bought was ati's radeon 8500. I think NVDA has a nice product line I just think its quite stale. They seem to stick with the same thing and just make it faster. ATI seems to me to look for better ways to make things look better. There have been a ton of reviews lately praising the radeon 8500 line. Sure the geforce 4 might perform tests better; but for the price right now I think ATI is a good bet.

oh dont know how I got off on that tanget :)

my original thought was NVDA buying AMD hmm I dont like NVDA that much so I hope they dont <g>
part of the reason; they bought 3dfx and left all voodoo users out in the cold ie no official patches. Bascially took over the company to stop the competition and said cya to all support for any past 3dfx user.

I agree with your statement "but the stock is having trouble going against the outgoing tide"; I think many of the stocks I am looking at of late get held up my the broader market. For example; if a stock under normal conditions would go higher; but now with the market in a slump is just falls due to lack of buyers.
