Cary, Thanks for your very informative response. In the March Q, Altera had a profit of $20m, but LSI had a loss. I guess that is due to Altera being fabless, and probably needs lower unit volumes to make a profit. Where as LSI needs high volumes to utilize their fab facilities. In their press release, LSI said they expected to make a profit in the 2nd half of this year. If my newly acquired insight is correct, I think that means they expect demand to increase to the point of sufficient fab utilization. I sure hope they are not setting up their investors for a disappointment.
