The industry is excited about IA-64 in the same way a prostitute is excited to be in the arms of her fat, balding, bad-breath customer - pay her enough and she'll fake whatever reaction the customer requests.

BMW Re...Not because they plan on keeping it exclusive, but because they've spent years in development, and they know that anyone who wishes to license the technology would be years behind in "catching up". That would basically give Intel a leadership position for years to come.<<<<<<<<<<

Isn't that the bottom line, the main reason Intel needs Itanium is because Intel can regain a monopoly over a segment of the market.

Talk about fast progress... it's one of the reasons why the industry continues to be excited about IA-64.<<<<<<<<

I also get excited every time my stocks take a nosedive; and the future looks bleak.

There is simply so much in the short term to look forward to.<<<<<<

I didn't realize the OEM's would consider bankruptcy was so much fun.

If the worst happens, and IA-64 fails, it sure won't mean the end of Intel.<<<<<

It will mean that Intel will throw even more resources into Yamhill. Success is quite often the result of desperation, as it sharpens the mind.

I just hope that success doesn't go too much to their heads, and they decide to divert resources from future products, and make certain assumptions like they will be "guaranteed successes". <<<<<<

LOL Good one. I definitely have to hand it to you for that one. If Intel could get a big head over the success of Itanic, they must have been estatic over the success of Timna. By the way, just what is your definition of success.
