insiders are dumping this stock like no tomorrow

Assuming your "like no tomorrow" analysis is indeed correct, a large part of the reason might be the CEO owning only 494 shares. If Straus shows no confidence in the future value of his company's stock, why should anyone else?

Did you notice that of the 4,923,448 shares Straus 'beneficially' owned on Aug 15, 2001, 4,922,954 were from options exercisable OR becoming exercisable within the next 60 days?

Did you also notice that the difference between those two numbers is 494 shares?

The Scifres situation is much different. After backing out his exercisable shares, he actually owns 7.89 mln shares, directly and indirectly. A "very small amt" as you say, but much better than 494 shares.

What is your basis for thinking that JDSU insider selling is much higher in recent times (weeks, months, ??) than normal? Ditto for your opinion of JDSU vs. other companies? Have you analyzed the numbers?

Ron

P.S. I like JDSU the company .. and have been long the stock. Unfortunately, my net worth has consequently shrunk.

Hi Lizzie,

I think JDSU is the better play. Corning has anywhere from 20-40 % of their business in long distance fiber - That is where the glut is.

JDSU on the other hand makes the "hook up components". MAN (Metro Area Networks)is where the growth will be in the short term/JMHO
