It certainly does invalidate criticism which claims the results are not to be trusted. This is how social science research is done. You're an engineer. Different field. I did social science research and have a number of publications to my name, including a meta-analysis of all psychotherapy research, published and doctoral dissertations, done prior to 1980. I taught stats to undergrads and took a year of doctoral level multiple regression analysis. Not a point with which to argue with me, I'd think.
