I have heard Sony is doing well in PDA's using the Palm OS of course. But walk into any tech hardware seller and look at who dominates the shelf-space. Palm does, and often has its own kiosk. No other brand does. As for MSFT, its Pocket PC OS plan looks to be de-railed. zdnet.com.com

This could bring down the iPaq very quickly. And Palm's new 705 is already ahead of the iPaq for corporate high-end users. Plus Compaq has its HWP worries. Clouds the picture for them.

Reminds me of Kodak trying to challenge Polaroid decades ago in instant cameras. OK Polaroid isn't in great shape now but like Polaroid, PALM's very brand name is what most people CALL the general product. So people bought Polaroids and almost no one bought Kodaks.

Like Kleenex or Xerox, people say "I am thinking of buying a palm". Or a "box of kleenex". Or "do you have a xerox machine". And so in PDA's naturally they look at the Palm units first and usually buy them. Recent capture of market share backs up this argument. Not a bad edge to have as the sector just begins to take off globally.

Yes there is competition, and 5 years from now who knows, but I like PALM's #1 and growing position. But yes Sony's are giving Palm a run for their money, or so the salesmen have told me, but Palm is still firmly #1. But you'd hardly buy Sony stock for the PDA biz. PALM stock is a pure play.
