I agree that is how it worked in the past when Intel bought PrairieComm and some other examples. It would also seem that Motorola would lose its preferential license BUT ONLY FOR THE NETWORK CSM chips. Motorola would still keep its handset side and still get preferential rates for its MSM purchases. Right?

I am thinking about the Ericsson purchase of Q's infrastructure. Is Siemens buying it for W-CDMA interests only (kind of like Ericsson not developing CDMA2000 side). Probably not since Motorola has a lot of business on CDMA2000 side in Japan, China etc.
