>>buying any gold or silver, or oil, or all three?<<

At this point, I think oil is the best value of those three, but there are even better values in the telecommunications sector, which has been battered to almost daily new lows.

In the oil stocks, I still like Unocal, based on its exceptional record of new discoveries and on its patents for reformulated gasoline. The only catch here is that Exxon has been leading a group of larger oil companies that are contesting the Unocal patents and are trying to influence the administration to change the regulations on reformulated gas to allow Exxon and others to use their own version that is not patented and is not as expensive for them as paying a cent or so a gallon royalty to Unocal. The recent legislation exapanding the use of ethanol to produce cleaner burning gasoline also looks like an industry attempt to circumvent the Unocal patents. So that's the catch on Unocal. If Unocal succeeds, the stock price will probably more than double this year. If not, then it kinda sits there and fluctuates with the world price of crude oil and natural gas.
