niceguy767 - why would anyone buy INTC at current levels given revenues below those of '98, twice as many fabs, $5 billion in worthless goodwill to pull a Houdini accounting with...

For starters, Intel posted profits in every quarter of the worst economic downturn in 2001.
How did AMD do?
Answer - AMD lost money in 3 out of 4 quarters of 2001 - and the first quarter of 2002.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

Intel has been in high volume production of 0.13 micron copper process for 10 months - and now has that process running on 300 mm wafers.
How is AMD's 0.13 micron process doing? It is essentially MIA - despite a phony paper launch a few weeks ago.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

Intel is now producing their 3rd generation StrataFlash devices - now on 0.13 micron process.
AMD has delayed their MirrorBit device production by over 6 months (it was due in Q1 2002).
Intel increased their Flash market share to 33% last year - in the worst down turn for semiconductors - AMD didn't.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

AMD can't afford to build any new fabs - Intel can build all they want - whenever they want - with cash from their piggy bank. AMD has to KowTow down to Taiwan for their future process and manufacturing.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

Intel's StrongArm processor is the fastest growing CPU in the PDA market segment - and Intel's next generation X-SCALE processor is now in production and providing faster speeds at lower powers.
AMD faked themselves out - shutting down their internal embedded CPU division last year, then shelling out $50 million for Alchemy - who has never made a profit - to try and get back in to this market.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

AMD has more long term debt than they have cash or equivalents. And they continue to lose money on a quarterly basis.
You think that makes AMD a good investment?

Niceguy, Re : "why would anyone buy INTC at current levels given revenues below those of '98"

Let me try to explain to you again. Intels 1998 revenue were $26.2B. Q1O2 was 6.8B, Q2 will be 6.6B, For your prediction to be true Intel has to make 12.8B in Q3+Q4. Do you expect Intel H2O2 revenue to be 5% lower than H102 ?

If there were to happen, I gaurantee you that your AMD Jan 20 options are dead.

Maui.
