It's a security issue. Content providers don't want to
give movies out that can be copied like napster music.
That should give more power to the Headend PVC that the
VOD vendors are offering. So the question is can the
subscriber offload the movie to Read/Write CD's to be
shared out.

Would seem it's like just about everything else in the tech world, with Moore's Law - capacity/performance about doubled in the past 18 months...

I would think that more/cheaper storage capacity for content can only be a Good Thing for VOD. "Every movie, every language, ever made..."

I think that it will help to take the PVR function away from the headend and into the living room. So what? I think that at the end of the day, cable operators will find that putting the PVR in the server will distract from the real mission of putting blockbuster at your fingertips. Also they may find that the "low value" network traffic created by this is putting incredible demands an their ability to manage things.
