Mexicans who lived in the Southwest and California faced exactly the situation of having a foreign power allow immigration that would ultimately Americanize the region. They may have resented it, but many adapted, not one blew up schoolchildren, and many probably were thankful to be a part of the States rather than Mexico.

Which raises two points: were/are most Arabs, especially those living in the Palestine mandate pre-1948, really so unwilling to live in an avowedly Jewish state?
And, since they seem to be, why? What do you think so distinguishes the US from Israel?
