These are all differences of degree, not kind. Democracy is the only one that genuinely distinguishes Israel; although you might have mentioned the freedom of its citizens, and its capital markets. However, I think it fair and natural to hold friends to better behaviour than enemies. If they keep to unpleasant ways, it damages the friendship. Their failings reflect on you. You care about them. If your friend is continually beating and cheating on his wife, would you excuse him because he's better than the rapist living over the road?
