I also know what you mean. I think the coolness with which I am greeted by some people may have to do with the market.

I do not talk to anyone outside the most immediate family (wife, daughter), but the fact that I have helped support a local artist by buying a couple of her (very fine) paintings for about $12,000 may make it clear that I have resources.

Every time I am at my in-laws and the boob-tube is on -- My father-in-law points to the "cute kid" on the DELL commercial and says he is bringing in greater sales for DELL. Every time my response is the same. No, they're sales are shrinking -- you can look it up and PCs are a low margin biz -- terrible combo for an investment.

But he says the same thing every time and I think my brother-in-law has a bunch of shares.
